
West Yorkshire Police confirm a murder investigation after Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins, jailed for child sex crimes, was killed in a violent attack at HMP Wakefield.
Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins has died in a violent incident inside HMP Wakefield, a high-security prison in West Yorkshire, England.
Authorities confirmed the death on Saturday, October 11, with West Yorkshire Police launching a murder investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
According to an official statement, officers were called to the prison at 9:39 a.m. after reports of a serious assault involving a male prisoner.
Watkins, aged 48, was found with severe injuries and despite emergency medical treatment, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Watkins had been serving a lengthy sentence since 2013 for multiple child sex offences, including the attempted rape of a baby. His 2012 arrest followed a drug raid at his Pontypridd home, where investigators seized numerous electronic devices containing incriminating material.
Watkins was one of Wales’ most recognizable musicians during the early 2000s. His band, Lostprophets, formed in 1997 and went on to sell millions of albums worldwide. The group disbanded immediately after Watkins’ conviction in 2013.
