Gartner is a research and advisory firm based in the United States. The Gartner Magic Quadrant are research reports done by the firm that has been produced through analysis into a specific market, the direction in which it is going, its maturity and its participants.

The Magic Quadrant works by way of Gartner Group. The competitors in the technological field will be split into 1 of 4 groups that are determined as a result of an undisclosed method used by Gartner.

Leaders – This is based on how well the business has completed their vision, and how well their execution was in getting to the point where their vision has been completed (ease of completion).

Visionaries – Provide a product that caters to the needs of the sector and understands the direction in which the market is going, but have not yet been able to sustain any steady financial gain or market shares.

Niche Players – The name says it all. Niche players solely stick to their specialty and do not try to branch out to anything else. It can as well include those who are having difficulty executing their final vision.

Challengers – Those in the challengers Gartner group work out to be serious competitors to the leader’s group. They hold a good position in the market, providing a strong product and show room for growth.
